I’m about to hit another milestone of Kindle ownership: taking it on its maiden voyage. And I can’t wait!

I subscribe to a lot of magazines, which tend to pile up when things get busy, so long flights are a glorious chance to sit down with a six-inch-high stack of them and plow my way through one after another, planting them in seat-back pockets as I go like Johnny Appleread. So don’t get me wrong, I’ll definitely be bringing some magazines, because there’s nothing quite like the guilty pleasure of leafing through makeup how-tos and fashion don’ts at 30,000 feet.

BUT. I’m also bringing some more serious reading (thanks to the local library’s e-book lending program) for whenever I’ve sucked down enough tiny paper cups of airline coffee to counteract the 4:00 am wake-up time. And, even more awesomely, I’m borrowing some guidebooks on my Kindle! I’ll have several books magically combined in a handy paperback-sized device, I can highlight and make notes to myself… and it won’t cost me $20 a pop for a book I’ll probably never use again.

Anyone who’s ever been forced to read the SkyMall catalog cover-to-cover when they unexpectedly ran out of reading material knows how good I’m feeling now.  This is the way to go, friends!
