Have you heard of Booktoberfest? New this year, it’s the Seattle Public Library’s month-long celebration of books and beer. While I personally prefer a nice hard cider, Seattle does love its microbrews, and Booktoberfest includes classes on home brewing, beer-themed book lists, trivia nights at local pubs, and happy hours where book lovers can mingle and talk books. Last night, I rounded up a few bookish friends for the Librarians’ Revenge Trivia Night at the Blu Grouse in Georgetown, co-hosted by librarian David Wright. We settled in with drinks and snacks (blackberry cider on tap, hooray!), petted the large, friendly dogs wandering through the bar, and got to work on the picture round: identifying book titles and authors from small snippets of their covers. Another bookish round had us guessing fictional characters from their first spoken lines.
Normally, I’m terrible at trivia, thanks to a complete lack of sports knowledge and cable TV. But with TV and pop-music experts on our team, the Late Fees soared to victory in the final round! Something tells me I’ll be back for more of that blackberry cider.
