Thor Hanson is an American conservation biologist and award winning author who has been fascinated with the natural world since he was a small child. While growing up in his native state of Washington, he routinely gathered up various small animals to add to his collection. He went on to study at the University of Redlands and the University of Vermont, where he studied with author and naturalist Bernd Heinrich. His subsequent research has taken him all over the globe and led to the numerous publications, including two books: The Impenetrable Forest and Feathers. He lives in the San Juan Islands with his wife and son.
