A successful entrepreneur and mother, Carine McCandless (b. 1971) is most famous as the sister of Chris McCandless, the subject of Jon Krakauer’s international 1996 bestseller Into the Wild. A key source for the book, she also worked closely with Krakauer and Sean Penn on the 2007 movie version. In 2014, she published The Wild Truth, a memoir that shed new light on her brother’s story. She lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia with her two daughters.
